NIFTY KNOLL
About the Artist

Rebecca Jensen ("RJ") is a Pacific Northwest artist whose work is driven by turning amusing ideas into real objects. Working mainly in cement sculpture and mosaic, her work evokes childhood, play, and the delight of happening upon a charming scene. She captures this with friendly and exaggerated shapes, active and flowing lines, bright colors, and youthful topics.

She is an avid orienteer, compelled board gamer, musing miniature painter, pastry-motivated cyclist, and spontaneous gardener.

She grew up as a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) in Granite Falls, WA, and earned a B.A. in Studio Art (and unofficially, bike racing) at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. After cycling across the country, she returned to Seattle, where she met her clever wife, Kate. Today they reside in Kenmore, Washington, where they watch birds in the yard with binoculars.

A knoll is a small mound and a mappable feature on orienteering maps. A knoll can be made of a variety of things, including rocks, earth, logs, squishy moss, and eager ferns. Sometimes when I come across a knoll, I think, "now that's a nifty knoll!" My art work is inspired by that same feeling of happening upon a delightful scene.
